Chelsea begin their attempt to regain the Premier League title at Wigan on Sunday lunchtime after having spent big in the summer to boost their attacking options following the departure of Didier Drogba.

Eden Hazard, whose flirtations with all of Europe’s top clubs came to end when he announced his decision via Twiter to sign for the European champions, along with Oscar, a star of Brazil’s Olympic silver medal winning U23 side, will be expected to provide the chances for the likes of Fernando Torres.

Werder Bremen’s Germany international Marko Marin was also brought in to further bolster Chelsea’s options out wide.

Wigan dragged themselves clear of relegation with a stunning run of results in the last 10 weeks of last season, including derailing Manchester United’s title challenge with a shock 1-0 win at the DW stadium.

In spite of the impending departure of Victor Moses to Sunday’s opponents, Roberto Martinez’s side look stronger following summer investments in the shape of Arouna Koné from Sevilla and Ivan Ramis, a centre-half signed from Mallorca.

Arsenal’s young Japanese star Ryo Myaichi has joined on a season-long loan deal following a successful spell on loan at Bolton last season.

Team News:
Branislav Ivanovic has been given a reprieve following his red card against Man City in last weekend’s Community Shield and is expected to line up at right back. Eden Hazard is in line to make his Premier League debut whilst Oscar may have to make do with a place on the bench. Marko Marin is a slight doubt, however.

Victor Moses is expected to be in Wigan’s match day squad despite Chelsea’s interest in the forward. Summer signing Ivan Ramis is struggling with a hamstring injury and may have to wait to make his Premier League bow.
